Who is Jane Doe?
Jane Doe is an arbitrary name. It was chosen as an example to show what the name of those
in specific ranks look like and how titles are to be presented, in what order and style.

Tier One: High Council

Alpha

The Alpha, or lead wolf, of Errantis is to be referred to as the Lady or Lord. They are tasked with over seeing everything in the pack, sharing power only with those they see fit for the roles. They are the only ones with the power to make permanent changes in the pack, unless all members of the Trusted strongly disagree with good reason. The Alpha knows everyone from the newest Tenderfoot to the eldest Ancient, caring for them equally while remaining objective in times of disagreement. Although they may be particularly skilled in a certain field, they have trained with the Masters of all fields and have knowledge of all ranks. The Alpha receives a formal title at the time of their death, specially chosen by the Trusted to represent their life.

RR: The Alpha comes into power through the Royal bloodline, meaning they must be born to the Alpha and the Alpha's consort. The Heir is not necessarily the oldest whelp but instead the one the Alpha finds to be the best fit. The oldest whelp will only come into power should they be chosen or should both the Alpha and the Alpha’s consort die without having chosen an Heir.

Title during life: Lady Jane Doe or Lord Jane Doe.

Example of Title during and after death: Jane Doe the Lion-Hearted.

Tag: EA

Alpha’s consort

The chosen partner of the Alpha is also to be referred to as the Lady or Lord of Errantis. They share similar duties to the Alpha and are to be honored in the same way. However, the consort must consult the Trusted before making any decisions and the Alpha is at liberty to reverse changes made by the consort. The only time the consort is able to make temporary decisions alone is if the Alpha and all of the Trusted are absent. It is possible for the consort to also be a member of the Trusted, in which case they are able to make temporary decisions on their own. They must spend significant time getting to know all the members of Errantis and learning the skills of all ranks, in order to become well-rounded in case of the Alpha’s death. The Alpha’s consort receives a formal title at the time of their death, chosen by the Trusted with approval from the Alpha, if still living. They become Alpha should the current Alpha pass and the Heir not be of age for the role.

RR: The Alpha’s consort comes into power through the Alpha’s choice. They are his or her chosen partner in mating and in life.

Title during life: Lady Jane Doe.

Example of Title during and after death: Lady Jane Doe the Lion-Hearted.

Heir

The Heir of Errantis is the offspring of the Alpha and the Alpha’s consort. They will one day take the place of their parent as the head of the pack and must therefore be protected at all costs. Prior to taking the role of Alpha, the Heir spends his or her time training with the Masters. When the Alpha and their consort see fit, the Heir will attend High Council meetings and potentially give their input, with permission. The Heir holds the temporary title of the Royal, which is to be removed upon becoming Alpha. The temporary title is in place to ensure that, should the Heir pass before becoming Alpha, they do not die untitled and unremembered. The Heir will become Alpha if they are over the age of two years and when the current Alpha steps down or passes away.

RR: The Heir must show maturity, skill, and poise in order to be chosen by the Alpha.

Title: Jane Doe the Royal.

The Trusted

The members of the Trusted are wolves who have shown great leadership, dedication, and loyalty to Errantis. They are very hand chosen carefully by the Alpha and must be approved by majority of the other members of the Trusted before being admitted. These wolves are held in nearly the same regard as the Alpha, and are to be honored and obeyed the same way the Alpha is to be honored and obeyed. They know the pack and the Alpha well enough to be able to make the proper temporary decisions in times of the Alpha’s absence. The Alpha’s approval must be gained before the Trusted make major, permanent changes to the pack. The Alpha will often consult other members of the Trusted in these times. Most importantly, should all members of the Trusted disagree with a decision brought forward by the Alpha, they are able to stop the action from going through. Should this occur, the Alpha and his or her consort, the Trusted, the Attentive, and the Masters will all be called forward to vote on the best course of action. The Trusted may only veto the Alpha’s word if they can all agree that it is not what is best for the pack.

RR: To become a member of the Trusted, one must stand out to the current ruling Alpha, providing not only great support, trust, loyalty, and friendship, but also show ability to make decisions fairly and state their opinion if necessary. The current ruling Alpha is the only one able to nominate someone for the Trusted and majority of the Trusted must approve before a new member is admitted. The only way to be removed from the Trusted is if all of the other members of the Trusted agree to the removal, or if the Alpha and majority of the Trusted agree to the removal. This prevents from any Alpha from creating a bias council to suit their agenda.

Title: Jane Doe the Title and the Trusted or Jane Doe the Trusted, Master of the Title.

The Attentive

Wolves with the formal title of the Attentive are also part of the High Council, however, they are not able to make temporary decisions without consulting a member of the Trusted and are not able to make permanent decisions without approval from the Alpha. They are more-so the eyes and ears of the High Council, tasked with mingling with all members of Errantis, learning about what the pack wants or dislikes and taking such information back to the Trusted and the Alpha. They are the monitors of the pack. In addition, they ensure everyone is pulling their weight, keep track of the whereabouts of members, and ensure that all pups have assigned guardian/s or parent/s.

RR: In order to apply to be one of the Attentive, you must first go through the ranks of apprentice, a formally titled member, and a Master of a title. A Master will add the title of the Attentive to their name only through the approval of the Alpha and must first gain trust with the Trusted and Alpha. They must show proficiency in laws, rules, and the inner workings of the pack. They will be tested on such knowledge along with their ability to retain information about other members of the pack.

Tier Two: Subordinates

Ancients

Wolves who are unable to complete their regular duties due to permanent illness, injury, or age are part of the Ancients. Although they keep their previous title, if they held one, their tag changes because their duties have also changed. The Ancients do no more than provide wisdom to the pack and take part in the rare votes should the High Council request it of them.

RR: Only wolves who are deemed unable to work will be asked to join the Ancients.

Title: Jane Doe the Title or Jane Doe, Master of the Title.

Platinum in tongue, Masters of the Eloquent have spent a considerable amount of time as a member of the Eloquent. They have shown perfection in their duties and detailed knowledge of what it takes to be successful in the field. Masters are the ones who give the Eloquent their tasks, sending them out on missions and watching over to ensure that the pack does not go quiet due to laziness. They are spinners of new stories, inventors of new games and teachers of new techniques. A Master must always be consulted regarding new ideas. Finally, a Master of the Eloquent ensures positive and up kept contact with allies. They report to the Alpha, and the Trusted regarding ally and enemy statuses.

RR: To become a Master of the Eloquent, one must spend a considerable amount of time as a member of the Eloquent. They must impress the Attentive with their knowledge and skill, enough for one of the Attentive to nominate them to a member of the Trusted and the Alpha.

The Eloquent

Wolves with golden tongues are given the title of the Eloquent. They are highly skilled at entertainment and speech, ready to strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Bringing about happiness via stories, games, and chit-chat is just one of their jobs, as they must also be ready to provide comfort in times of sorrow. But don’t be fooled, these wolves are not jesters. They are often paired up with one the Gallant and sent on important missions outside of the pack, relaying messages to allies and enemies along with scouting out information.

RR: To gain the title of the Eloquent, one must start off as an apprentice, also known as a Silver-Tongue.

They will be tested at random by a Master and will only be given a formal title when the Master feels the wolf is prepared for the role.

They know multiple hot-spots for gathering supplies and can answer in seconds how to treat even the rarest of illnesses and injuries. As a Master of the Merciful, one will be tasked with ensuring that all of the Merciful are up to date with their techniques of healing. They hold power over all of the Merciful, granting the title only to apprentices they see fit. They must randomly test their subjects, and approve or deny the use of new ideas. Only a Master of the Merciful is able to treat the High Council members, personally or by assigning a member of the Merciful whom they trust. However, it is the Master who is held responsible should the condition of a member of the High Council worsen due to malpractice.

RR: To become a Master of the Merciful, one must spend a considerable amount of time as a member of the Merciful. They must impress the Attentive with their knowledge and skill, enough for one of the Attentive to nominate them to a member of the Trusted and the Alpha.

Members of the Merciful are said to be the gentlest in heart. They do not shy away from aiding the ill and injured when needed and ensure that proper actions are taken to keep their patient alive. In case of a war, the Merciful are the ones to tend to any Errantis members who may be injured. During everyday camp life, the Merciful attend to any members who may be ill and are present during spars, tending to any wounds once the spar is over. The Merciful must have their supplies fully stocked and their knowledge up to date at all times in order to prevent wasted time.

RR: To become a member of the Merciful, one must start of as an apprentice and show skill through random testing until a Master of the Merciful sees fit.

The Maggots must spend their time shadowing the Merciful, learning from them. They must memorize illnesses and how to treat them, which herbs are useful and where to find them, along with the many techniques used by the Merciful. The Maggots will be asked to aid the Merciful in supply gathering and will be tested randomly by the Masters of the Merciful.

Members of the Gallant who have shown great bravery in protecting Errantis and a sharp eye when patrolling borders will be given the title of Master of the Gallant. These wolves are built like mountains and contain an aura of safety, allowing all those under their care to sleep easily. They assign members of the Gallant to accompany other Errantis members on external missions and know at all times who is around the pack. The Gallant always report to the Masters, regardless of how meaningless the information may seem. Finally, the Masters of the Gallant are closest to the High Council and are the ones tasked with ensuring that the Alpha, the consort, the Heir, and the Trusted are protected at all times. They report information to the Alpha, the Trusted, and the Attentive.

RR: To become a Master of the Gallant, one must spend a considerable amount of time as a member of the Gallant. They must impress the Attentive with their knowledge and skill, enough for one of the Attentive to nominate them to a member of the Trusted and the Alpha.

 The Gallant

These are the guardian wolves of Errantis. They share both the kind hearts of the Merciful and the intensity of the Valiant. Members of the Gallant can often be found around the borders of the pack territory, patrolling and monitoring who is coming in and out. They also keep an eye out for non-Errantis wolves who may be lurking around the pack and will confront suspicious strangers by asking simple questions. Only wolves who are strong enough to fight off intruders will become members of the Gallant as these wolves must be able to physically defend against attackers. They act as physical guards to Errantis wolves out on missions and those simply lounging around the pack territory. Whereas the Valiant are at the forefront of battles, the Gallant are posted up by those who need protection such as the High Council and pups. They must show not only physical strength but also a strong protective nature. At times they spar with the Valiant in order to prove their physical abilities.

RR: To become a member of the Gallant, one must start of as an apprentice and show skill through random testing until a Master of the Gallant sees fit.

With permission of one of the Masters of the Gallant, a Watcher may accompany one of the Gallant on external missions, learning how to properly guard a member of Errantis outside of pack territory. In times of war, the Watchers will be assigned a group to protect. They will also be randomly tested, at times sparring with another member of the Gallant or Valiant.

Supreme soldiers of Errantis are given the title of Master of the Valiant. These wolves are not only the biggest and most fit, but also have the most extensive knowledge of combat. They are ruthless and show exceptional bravery in the most dire of situations, not stopping until Errantis is safe and the enemy is terminated. The Masters must also push the Valiant to their limits, testing their endurance, stamina, strength, and agility on a regular basis. They ensure strengths are perfected and weaknesses are eliminated. Finally, the Masters are in charge of organizing the Valiant to prevent chaos during battles and command the entire army. They must be highly organized as a group and consult the Alpha and the Trusted regarding battle plans. They require the Alpha’s approval before going to war.

RR: To become a Master of the Valiant, one must spend a considerable amount of time as a member of the Valiant. They must impress the Attentive with their knowledge and skill, enough for one of the Attentive to nominate them to a member of the Trusted and the Alpha.

The Valiant

Members of the Valiant are some of the most brutal wolves in Errantis, second only to the Merciless. However, they come first in strength and are built like war-machines. These blood-thirsty creatures are trained to be unstoppable in battle and are the ones deployed during wars or should the Gallant be in need of aid. Although they may start off weak, the only way for the Iron-Jaws to advance is by gaining muscle and strength until they are able to win spars against the Valiant. The Iron-Jaws are permitted to shadow the Valiant during battles but are not to take part unless given the command from a Master of the Valiant.

RR: Iron-Jaws are wolves who wish to be a member of the Valiant, are at least two years of age and have passed the two day trial period of the Tenderfoot.

Master of The Merciless

Contrary to the Merciful, the Masters of the Merciless have stone-cold hearts. They show no remorse for their actions and have zero sympathy, making them the perfect leaders of the Merciless. They ensure that none of the Merciless are expressing kindness towards the titleless and that all punishments are carried out efficiently. Although the Masters control the Merciless with iron fists, they must also know their boundaries to prevent unnecessary deaths and abuse of power. The Masters must be level headed enough to know what is and isn’t fair. They consult the Alpha and the Trusted regarding punishments.

RR: To become a Master of the Merciless, one must spend a considerable amount of time as a member of the Merciless. They must impress the Attentive with their knowledge and skill, enough for one of the Attentive to nominate them to a member of the Trusted and the Alpha.

The Merciless

The most brutal wolves in Errantis are titled the Merciless. Their sole purpose in the pack is to punish, torture, and execute other wolves when given the order. In order to properly do this, the Merciless must show an ability to detach themselves from their emotions and carry out cruel tasks without hesitation. The Merciless also keep watch over the titleless, ensuring that no one is treating them with any kindness, and feed them enough to avoid starvation. Although they may not be the strongest of wolves, the Merciless must be able to kill another whether it be via brute strength or through knowledge of anatomy.

Before becoming one of the Merciless, the Black-Hearts must be stripped of their emotional attachments. They are pushed to their emotional limits and taught to resist manipulative techniques often used by prisoners and the titleless in an attempt to escape or reduce punishment. Tier Three: Junior Class

Adolescents

Wolves of Errantis who are between the age of 1-2 are placed into the group of Adolescents. They are old enough to begin exploring the formal titles so that by the time they turn two they have an idea of which title they would like to work towards. Adolescents are permitted to watch training session of the formally titled members and are encouraged to ask many questions. They are permitted to leave Errantis territory provided that a formally titled member accompanies them.

RR: Wolves aged 1-2 years are automatically put into the Adolescents group.

Tier Four: Inferiors

Titleless

The lowest possible rank one can have in Errantis is that of the titleless. Wolves in this position are either prisoners of the pack or have broken enough rules to have their title completely stripped from them. This is not a rank anyone can ask for or should want as it is a shameful punishment. The titleless are forbidden from interacting with other members of Errantis, other than the Merciless and the High Council, should they decide to check in. They are subject to loneliness, hunger, boredom, and any physical punishment a Master of the Merciless has decided upon.

RR: Break the rules (note that you risk receiving other punishments, such as execution, as well).

Title: None. Not even your name is important.
